Mr. Tsuyoshi Takahashi, producer of “ Balancealpha”

He developed a rice cultivation resistant to cold-weather with EM agriculture method.
Mr. Tsuyoshi Takahashi is a rice farmer in Mamurokawa-town, Yamagata Prefecture .
He encountered EM agriculture method in 1990 when the surplus of rice increased and became a very serious problem all over Japan and , at the same time, consumers' interest in the safety of foods was enhanced.
He had been seeking a new agriculture method so as to grow safe and delicious rice with no agricultural chemicals. Mr. Takahashi paid attention to EM agriculture method because it was an improved "BOKASI” compost-agriculture method which had been handed down from ancient times.
Mr. Takahashi has been tackling rice-cultivation without agricultural chemicals or chemical fertilizers centering on EM agriculture method for 17 years since then.His name became well known all over Japan in 1993 when severe cold-weather damage occurred. In that year Japan 's rice-production areas suffered such destructive damage due to long-lasting low temperatures and abnormal weather that the government took emergency measures by importing foreign rice. |

Nevertheless Mr. Takahashi enjoyed a good harvest of rice at his rice paddies as usual.
As the mass media heard about this fact, they came to Mr. Takahashi's rice paddies in great numbers and introduced him as a farmer growing a vitalized rice resistant to cold-weather, all over Japan.
Dr. Teruo Higa, a professor who had established EM agriculture technology, highly evaluated him because he put EM agriculture technology into practice, and has always taken him with him to foreign countries using his agriculture technical advice since then.

EM technology is based upon the production of a fermented material (“Bokashi”), of which the main ingredient is brown rice.
Dr. Teruo Higa added papaya and sea weed to this “Bokashi”, fermented them and marketed the product as a health drink. That is “EMX”.
Mr. Tsuyoshi Takahashi supplied rice powder to be the ingredient for the production of “Bokashi” at the early stage of “EMX” spreading.
However was not completely satisfied with the quality of “EMX” and started making new anti-oxidization drink applying his own “Bokashi” production technology for agriculture , which eventually led to “Balance alpha ”
The idea of Dr. Teruo Higa who wrote “ Co-prosperity and Coexistence” had made EM technology spread all over the world at a surprising speed.
He said in his book “ Great revolution to save the earth” published in 1993,“Thinking of my study on EM, I established EM technology by accident, not by great effort and pains. So I don't monopolize it and intend to disclose the secret of EM.”
And “We should put basic existence relating to things (such as medicine, agriculture and food) out of the principle of competition to realize a society with co-prosperity and coexistence.
In order to put the philosophy of co-prosperity and coexistence into practice, technological improvement and multiplication movement, such as adding an original improvement and added value, making them better and spreading them widely, must be done by those who receive technology and know-how.
Mr. Tsuyoshi Takahashi has visited many places on numerous occasions to give agriculture advice (over 100 days a year giving agriculture advice in over 8 countries ) and created “Balance alpha ” with his own improvements, which is just his practice of Higa's philosophy, we think.

His adherence to work
Those who have visited Takahashi's farm were surprised at the various agriculture equipments cleanly polished and well maintained. It is said that taking great care of tools implies remarkable characteristics of those who are proud of their own jobs.
His factory to produce “Balance alpha ” is also equally clean and beautiful like a new one recently built, although 9 years have already passed since it started production.
However his obstinate adherence is above all geared to selecting better materials for “Balance alpha”.
He uses only brown rice cultivated at his farm without any agriculture chemicals and chemical fertilizers and also gathers only organic materials such as loquat and chrysanthemums grown at the Farms where he himself gave advice.
He finally dug a well to 250 meters in and directly sucked up subsoil water in spite of high costs.
Even now Mr. Takahashi tries to experiment with many kinds of new materials to aim at further improvements for “ Balance alpha ”.
He says “There is no compromising about the food and drink that people ingest. If one feels satisfied with something, it starts deteriorating at once.
We can see the future of “ Balance alpha ” only in search of the better.”
